Purpose:

The Field Engineer is responsible for inspecting, walk testing and installing equipment, turning up and commissioning DAS systems and BDA's (SOLID, ADRF, COMBA, WESTEL, NEXTIVITY, WILSON ETC)> RF troubleshooting, directing crews or workers on site, conducting research, and reporting on project status activating BDA's on public Safety radio networks, optimizing wireless communication systems, such as radio, and cellular. They work to ensure efficient transmission of data and signals while minimizing interference and optimizing signal strength and coverage. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Defining the Project Scope of work
  • Understand requirements and obtain authorization to proceed from the FCC licensee.
  • Understand requirements and obtain authorization to proceed from the AHJ.
  • Evaluating RF Signal Strength and Quality
  • Turning up and commissioning DAS systems and BDA's 
  • Identify sources of potential RF interferences.
  • Grade and document RF signal strength and quality test results.
  • Understand System Design and Layout
  • Provide parameters for system design applications.
  • Validate selected system equipment (BDA and non-BDA solutions)
  • Plan headend (e.g., physical layout, structural, and architectural construction considerations).
  • Review and finalize system layout.
  • Validate bill of materials (BOM)
  • Execute permit process.
  • Performing Commissioning, Acceptance Test, and Maintenance Activities
  • Complete acceptance process. 
  • Ability to represent MIS to the customer in a professional manner while on site.
  • Ability to lead and direct Technicians and apprentices in all aspects of DAS installation.

Qualifications

  • Associate's, or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience required.
  • +3 years' experience in the telecommunications DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems industry preferably in a technical role.
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following platforms: P25 ,EDACS radio networks, Public Safety Networks, LTE, CDMA, UMTS, GSM. Test equipment including: PCTEL, Anritsu sweep/PIM equipment.
  • Have an introductory understanding of RF engineering concepts and principles including antenna, line, and RF theory, propagation modeling, and must show an aptitude and desire to learn in a changing technical field. 
  • ERCES-NICET level 2 certification preferred not required for hire 
  • Certifications with ADRF, Westell, Comba, Nextivity, PCTEL and Solid preferred. 

Other Qualifications:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Innovative thinking to solve complex problems. 
  • The ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment. 
  • The ability to work flexible hours and support night or weekend work as needed. (Overnight travel may be required.) 
  • Valid driving license with good driving record. 

Compensation: $80 - $90K
